Well it has been a long time coming but I am super excited to share with you that my new book, Chasing Shadows, is on sale today!
The book is a true David vs Goliath story (or, perhaps more accurately, David vs many Goliaths). It was a real labour of love to recount the story of the Citizen Lab’s founding, alongside our many adventures over the past twenty + years investigating and exposing targeted threats against civil society in the digital domain.
I have been so fortunate to be surrounded by so many world-class talented, ethical, and dedicated researchers, as well as the many brave journalists, activists, human rights defenders and others who have been the subjects of our work. I am glad that I had an opportunity to tell all of these tales, and I hope you enjoy reading about them.
The Citizen Lab is one part of a growing community of digital accountability watchdogs and civic advocacy groups that includes Access Now, Amnesty International, R3D, Social Tic, and many others. I am truly grateful for their partnership, and I hope that comes across in the book.
At the same time, we have to acknowledge these are very dark times, and the risks around the work this community does are growing exponentially as the fascist, oligarchic madmen cult takes the reins of power in the United States. I hope my stories inspire people to stand up to despotism. It’s needed now more than ever. Human rights and civil society depend on it.
